We have a team of Practice Nurses

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Phlebotomist 

A phlebotomist takes blood from patients and can also take blood pressure readings.

Jane Horton - Practice Manager

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

Sheena Brown - HR & Reception Manager

The HR Manager deals with all staffing issues from recruitment to retirement. We advertise vacancies on the NHS Jobs website and on the National Apprenticeship website.

Lorna Bocsi - Dispensary Manager

We have a large team of dispensers who dispense acute and repeat medication. They support the GPs by ensuring that patients have had the necessary checks before issuing repeat medications. We deliver medications only to those patients who are genuinely housebound.

Jan Knight - Administration & IT Manager

We have a team of administrators who maintain patient records, send referrals and letters to hospital, and administer practice finances.

Reception

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses.

Midwife

The midwife sees patients who are pregnant and holds clinics in the practice.

District Nursing Team

The District Nursing Team for Holbrook and Shotley Surgeries offer nursing care to housebound patients 365 days of the year, between the hours of 8.00am and 17.00pm. They can be contacted through the surgery or via the district nurse answer phone on 0300 123 2425.

Health Visitor

The Health Visitor is a qualified nurse who has undertaken additional training in child and adult health and development.

The Health Visitor sees children under five and their families, either at home or at Holbrook surgery:
     • Holbrook  13:00 – 15:00

The Health Visitor also visits regularly some of the local Parent/Baby/Toddler groups. There is an Early Years Advisor who works with the Health Visitor and who will provide information on baby weaning and behaviour management.
